Sounds Like These

Rise Of The Sex Robots

Working alongside the team at the Guardian we provided the mix on this intriguing documentary…

Pinterest on Channel 4

For much of 2016 we had the pleasure of being involved with Pinterest’s first ever TV advertising campaign on Channel 4. Working closely with Stinkdigital we produced a sound palette framework that would form the basis for the spots. Each custom spot then had tailored sound design relating to the programme content, which included Made In Chelsea, First Dates and Jamie’s Superfoods. The campaign aims to show young women that Pinterest is perfect for creative, useful, everyday ideas.

With the campaign now fully wrapped up for 2016, here’s a brief round up of what we got up to.

Aquilo – You Won’t Know Where You Stand

After a frantic end to 2016 we were eased into the new year with the team at Agile Films and music video director Eoin Glaister, to provide a little sound design and mix on the beautifully shot film for the evocative ‘You Won’t Know Where You Stand’ by music duo Aquilo.

The video is first of 3 in the series which will be released in conjunction with their new album ‘Silhouettes’, out Jan 27th.

MØ – Drum

With our good friends over at Agile Films we supplied sound design on this music video for artist MØ’s latest single, Drum.

The Walking Dead – Recap

To kick off the Walking Dead’s 7th season, we worked alongside NowTV and video production agency Contra on a round up video of the show’s 6 seasons. With a little mix and sound design on our part, the edit was tied together with narration by the brilliant John Cleese.

A few months back we worked alongside Action Productions and directing duo Saul and Josh to compose music and provide mixing for this promotional video. Kindness are a non-profit movement that encourage and promote small acts of kindness to help bring about a kinder world.

Behind the Scenes – sml. Wheels x SkatePAL

A few weeks ago we found ourselves wandering around council estates in South London with Shade, working on a video promoting a new collaboration between sml. Wheels and SkatePAL.

One of our favourite charities; SkatePAL is a UK-based NGO that builds skateparks and teaches skateboarding to children in Palestine. They’d join forces with LA-based sml. Wheels and enlisted the help of skaters Chris Jones and Sammy Montano – to spend a day around London testing the new wheels around the roughest spots they could find!

The idea for the piece was to fuse the sounds of Palestine with the rugged textures, colours and surfaces of London. We’d written a track based around an old tape recording discovered by Awesome Tapes From Africa, which we’d sampled and re-mixed to form the backdrop for the video. On-shoot Chris and Sammy focused on landing their tricks whilst we recorded the sounds of their skateboards, paying special attention to noises that are made when skating through London’s rugged streets.

Back in the edit, Rowan from Shade cut the footage to our track and we added extra sound effects and Middle Eastern atmospheres to really bring the film to life.

It was great to fun to work on and we look forward to more SkatePAL collaborations in the future!

Casual Films 10th Anniversary

This year, our friends over at Casual Films are turning ten. That’s a long time, especially to a young company like ours.

Although we’ve only been involved in the more recent pages of the Casual story, we’ve enjoyed working together on lots of great projects for people like Samsung, Canon and Specsavers – some of which we’ve even won some awards for (Best Music at the Cannes Corporate Film Festival 2015 and Gold Medal for Original Music at the New York Film Festival 2016).

Beyond working together, we’ve become great mates – and it’s fair to say that Sounds Like These owes a lot to the Casual team for all their support and guidance over the past few years. Special thanks goes to Guy Hixon and head honchos Nick Francis and Barnaby Cook.

Congratulations guys, here’s to the next ten!

Check out some of the lovely films we’ve worked on together below.

Mischief in London…

Having been a busy few months for us with plenty of exiting projects to talk about (and lots to look forward to) we thought it was about time we got back to reporting some Sounds Like These related news!

Last week we had the pleasure of joining forces with Shade Media on location in Shoreditch where a very special cyclist was out on his bike and up to no good…

Red Bull Unleashed – Surf Snowdonia

We had the pleasure of working on the mix for this video, showcasing Snowdonia’s latest attraction. Alongside Westbound TV, we provided mixing and sound design duties on the promo which covers Redbulls first Unleashed event at Surf Snowdonia.

Working alongside visual guru’s Shade Media, we created original music and sound design for this EE action cam promo.

Durex – Destination Paradise

Working with East London’s Agile Films, we provided mixing and sound design for Durex’s summer campaign ‘Destination Paradise’.

The video features the music ‘Placid Acid’ by Tourist.

We recently finished working on the sound for ‘Discord’, a short film directed by Barney Brookes. Based on a true story, the film follows a young man called Blake as he tries to re-assimilate to normal life following a terrible accident.

Joe created a beautiful original soundtrack for the film, whilst the sound design and mix was covered by Theo. The film is currently being readied for film festivals and will be available to watch next year.
